When Payton and Aaron chose Villa Papelillos for their Sayulita micro-wedding, they knew exactly what they wanted: an intimate ceremony with close family, stunning Pacific views, and photography that would make their gallery look like it came from a luxury editorial shoot — not a small wedding.

They got all three.

Why Villa Papelillos for an Intimate Destination Wedding

Villa Papelillos sits on a hilltop overlooking Sayulita’s famous surf break. From the ceremony terrace, you can watch the waves roll in below while the mountains frame the horizon. It’s one of those venues where the setting does half the work for a photographer — the other half is knowing exactly where to stand when the light hits.

The villa’s intimate scale (perfect for 10–30 guests) creates a naturally relaxed atmosphere. Without 200 people moving between cocktail hour and the reception, the timeline flows easily. Payton and Aaron’s April 5th ceremony was exactly that — relaxed, emotional, and visually stunning at every moment.

The Exclusive Charm of Villa Papelillos

From a photography perspective, Villa Papelillos has a few specific advantages:

The terrace view — The main ceremony space looks directly west over the Pacific. In April, sunset falls around 7:30 PM, which means a 5 PM ceremony gives you golden hour portraits immediately after the ceremony wraps. Timing is everything.

The architecture — The villa blends rustic Mexican construction with modern finishes. Rough-textured walls, terracotta tile, and lush garden plantings create texture and warmth in every frame.

The intimacy — Small guest counts mean I can move freely, get closer, and capture the expressions on every face during the vows — not just the couple’s.

Maximizing the Moment: 4-Hour Coverage Strategy

Four hours sounds short. Done well, it’s more than enough for a micro-wedding like Payton and Aaron’s. Here’s how we approached it:

Hour 1: Getting ready portraits and detail shots (rings, bouquet, venue). Candid moments with family.

Hour 2: Ceremony on the terrace. Full coverage — wide establishing shots, close emotional moments, the exchange of vows and rings.

Hour 3: Couple’s portraits during cocktail hour. We used the garden terraces, the stairs down toward the pool, and the best view spot directly above the surf break.

Hour 4: Reception beginnings — first dance, toasts, family portraits.

The result: a complete, coherent gallery that tells the full story of the day.

Payton & Aaron: A Sunset Ceremony to Remember

Payton walked down the aisle to the sound of the ocean below. Aaron’s expression when he saw her is one of those moments that makes this job unforgettable.

The ceremony was short — 20 minutes — but every second was photographed. The vows they had written themselves were personal and funny and heartfelt all at once. The guests (just 12 of them) cried and laughed in equal measure.

After the ceremony, we had exactly 45 minutes of golden light. We made every minute count.
